So I just wasted an hour on a show that lured me in with this:
Canada is doubtless one of the most diverse and beautiful countries in the world. With thousands of miles of breathtaking wilderness, cosmopolitan cities like Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, superlative ice...
I was admittedly not having a great night, just kinda bumming and soaking in some things I found out today. I check my email and I get one from VH1 that says they have a show called Awesomely Canadian. I'm thinking, how cool that VH1 is honoring our northern brothers on Canada Day. I clean my kitchen to pass the time til it comes on and it is one of their typical shows making fun of everything. I thought they were going to expose places, and cool bands.... no just another excuse to make fun of Canada. I know Loveboy is the brunt of many jokes, heck I was even embarassed for them being on that show "Hit me baby one more time" This show was just plain stupid and reaching to the same old jokes, Canadians drink beer, love hockey...doh... You know, some of the most amazing cities in North America are all there- TO, Vancouver and Montreal. I saw my first punk rocker when I was like 12 when I was in Ontario for a drag boat race. UGH I am so mad I watched it. Here's the absolute worst part, Rachel Perry was the host. Canadian, former Much hostess and she kept referring to them as "they" She never owned up to being Canadina in the show... So lame, a reminder again why I don't watch TV. I miss Ahmer and "Bands Reunited"
Answer to the question "who is in the picture?" It's Paul MacAusland, singer of one of my top five all time favorite bands Haywire. They played a show in Dartmouth, cross the bay from Halifax tonight. I was quite sure at one point I was going to marry him and move to PEI. So things change 20 years later, but I would still marry him.. ;)
Back in real life, I had a fine lunch with my buddies at Get Out, found out that Brian moved back to AZ(ugh), enjoyed an afternoon shopping with the family and then got my XM set up to listen to tomorrow for Live8. Dan says he may only have to work tomorrow, I wish, I miss him and I see him everyday-crashed out sleeping.... Still uncertain about the Cruise, I think a new wrench has got my mind changing about it.
I got to pick my favorite local song for an article in next week's Get Out. So nice to be asked still. So many to choose from but it had to be the Blossoms, they were my life for so many years, all the rest are icing on the cake. I will have to think about my favorite local songs...make my own list. I picked Kelli Richards, once I thought a minute, that seemed obvious. I could have said Found out about you, remembering the time Karri V and I listened to it million times to transcribe the lyrics but Kelli encompasses early era GBS and makes me remember how many times I would put them on while mom and I would be in the pool or doing something. It represents my parents supporting me in all my interests, including going to Blossom shows and loving them too. They listened to many a tale about the Blossoms at the dinner table.
hmmm, top of my head without going in the closet... My Star- Sugar High, Burger Christ - DHW, Hold Me down - Blossoms, Drive - Jamie's Brother, Stay away sister-dare I say it?, I got more, give me a chance to look in the closet, definately some Spinning Jenny, Beat Angels, Ashbrook/satellite, Deadly Arnez, a song I love from Serene Dominic, hmmm... good, this has got me thinking.....Steve Larson singing The Cure, Whose's side are you on- Gas Giants, Do we count the Sidewinders? hmmmm, Looking forward to seeing the list!
